Baston Del Rey Partners with Celebrity Chef Dave Martin for “The Tequila Diet”
At Baston Del Rey, we believe in amazing food and fantastic tequila. That’s why we’re proud to officially announce our partnership with Chef Dave Martin, Top Chef Alum and recent Cutthroat Kitchen winner. We’ve been collaborating with Dave on our new lifestyle book called “The Tequila Diet” which will feature signature cocktails and classic Mexican dishes using our tequilas. The book will be available in hardcopy and e-versions in Spring of 2018.
“Like All My Stories, It Started with a Horseback Ride”
Our Founder, John Miller connected with Dave through friends from the world of horseback riding. An avid horseman, Miller met a group of people at an equestrian clinic and started chatting about his passion for tequila. The talk turned into a tasting of Baston Del Rey tequilas and led to the introduction of John and BDR to the Swiftsure Ranch, an organization that helps those with disabilities through equine assisted activities and therapies. The folks at Swiftsure told Miller about their yearly Cowboy Ball and he immediately asked, “How can I help? He then partnered with local Sun Valley Chef, Brent Barsotti to offer a tequila tasting and authentic Mexican dinner as an auction item.
The item sold with ease and although Chef Brent (a longtime friend of Dave’s) could execute a Mexican fiesta, he knew that Dave had been working on a Mexican food and tequila based lifestyle cookbook. So, he reached out to Dave about joining forces on the dinner and Baston’s hopes of connecting with a chef partner in the food world happened organically.
A Perfect Match Through Flavor and Experience
Upon meeting, Miller and Dave found they share the same simple belief: great food should be about the flavor and the experience. Dave said that he had been working on a tequila-based cookbook for a while but had yet to find the right tequila brand and partner to complement the book. Upon tasting Baston Del Rey’s pure agave flavors- he knew his search was over. Miller and Dave have been working together over the last year developing the best food and drink recipes made with Baston’s tequilas. The book will be true to Mexico and celebrate the flavors of the many regions and is inspired by Dave and Miller’s many Mexican excursions.

In 2006, Dave took a chance on a new reality show called ‘Top Chef ‘and the last 10 years have been have been a whirlwind. As a culinary expert, Dave works in product and recipe development for retail brands along with big food companies like ConAgra, PepsiCo and Yum Brands. He has consulted for restaurants in NYC, LA, Boston and Austin. Dave is a global flavor expert that knows how to work with the ingredients indigenous of any region and create dishes and products that stay true to their origin.
In his TV debut, he showed the world his ability to thrive under pressure and was all about creating amazing upscale comfort food. His return to the small screen on Cutthroat Kitchen ended up in a battle of crab melts where he reigned victorious. Dave is a strong believer in healthy living and loves to support nonprofits and charitable organizations that focus on helping children around the globe.
